The Newborn Experience

What if “telling your story” was as easy as sitting on your couch and snuggling with your baby, with your family around you? What if you could just relax at home, instead of carting everyone and everything to a photography studio? No diaper bag to pack, no toddler to wrangle while the photographer is busy with something, no rushing through “poses” before the next family arrives at the studio…just chilling at home, with your favorite people, getting to know your newest family member. It CAN be that easy.

Becoming a mom was one of the best things I ever did for my photography business because it helped me to understand how fleeting this time is and showed me how powerful and emotional photography can be, especially when using it to tell a story. Adding a new family member is one of the most important and beautiful chapters of your family’s story and helping to capture that new love is one of my favorite parts of being a photographer.

Newborn sessions are $600 and include 15 digital images (available for immediate download from your edited gallery). Additional images are available for purchase as well. I provide step-by-step guidance throughout the process (including what to wear and how to prepare your family for session day) to help make this experience as easy as possible and am available for questions whenever you have them.

What to Expect

Step 1

Inquire to learn more about the experience, designed with intention and tailored to you. I’ll follow up personally to guide you through the next steps and answer any questions.

Step 2

Session day is relaxed and the pace is set by your family. You’ll be guided through the entire session with lots of snuggling and connection with your loved ones. 

Step 3

Your finished gallery will be delivered via a private link, where you may select and download the 15 images included in your session. Additional artwork is available for purchase. A mobile gallery app will also be provided for effortless viewing and sharing.

Frequently Asked Questions…

  • Does my entire house have to be photo-ready?

    No! In fact, we will probably only use one or two rooms for your session. I usually like to photograph the family in either the master bedroom or family room and then I love to get a few images of the nursery as well. You can choose whether or not you want to prep these rooms but we will talk about it before your session so you’ll be prepared.

  • What do my family and I wear for our session?

    I have some tips on my blog that can help you out but whatever you do, make it your style! As for your baby, I recommend something simple, like a solid-colored onesie that coordinates with whatever the family is wearing.

    What to Wear

  • What will my family and I do at our session?

    With newborn sessions, I find it’s easier to have a fairly loose schedule. I love getting images of families snuggled on the bed or couch together as well as individual images of each family member with the baby. We take as many breaks as your baby needs (to eat or get cleaned up) and I usually end up taking pictures through all of that, as well. If possible, we will also get some pictures in the nursery. No matter what, I will be giving you direction for the entire session so you know what to do.

  • Does the session have to take place right after my baby is born?

    Nope! In fact, I prefer the newborns I photograph to be at least six weeks old. I love capturing connection between family members and your baby will still be sleepy for several weeks after birth. By waiting a few weeks, your baby will be much more alert and ready to interact with you. In addition, it gives you a few weeks to settle in and figure out a new routine before your session.
