  FAQs

I know you're busy and your time is valuable so my goal is to make the entire process as quick and easy as possible. Let me start by answering some of the most common questions I get from clients during the process, from start to finish!

Q. Lifestyle vs. Documentary-Style...what is the difference??

A. Lifestyle photography is similar to the more traditional portrait photography in that your photographer will give you direction on posing but it is less formal and focuses on capturing the natural, authentic moments between family members, creating images that are more emotional than traditional portrait photography.

Documentary-style photography sessions tell a story. Your photographer may give you a small amount of direction (as far as where to stand for the best light) but typically stays as hands-off as possible to allow you and your family to just enjoy being together. Both styles are very relaxed and incorporate games and play into your session.

If you're looking for a gallery of posed images, where everyone is looking at the camera, I'm not your girl. I do take a few of those pictures every session but the majority of my images are ones where you're focused on each other, not on me. Most of my sessions (Maternity, Newborn and Family) are primarily lifestyle-based but my Storyteller Session is exclusively documentary-style. For more information, check this out.

Q. I think I may be interested in a session. How do I schedule one?

A. First, I encourage you to look through the galleries on my website or visit me on Instagram or Facebook to see my work. It is extremely important to me that you and I have the same vision for your session and that you love the images I create. Once you have done that and are ready to schedule a session (or you have questions), go here:

Q. We scheduled our session…what happens next??

A.  Once you've booked your session, I will send you a questionnaire to fill out to help me learn more about your family and your vision for our time together. We will also schedule a pre-session phone consultation, where we will discuss the answers from your questionnaire and go over all of the details (wardrobe, location, things you may want to include).

Q. What do we wear for our session??

A. Whatever you want, as long as it reflects your style! We will discuss options at your pre-session consultation but I can also be available for additional help, either over the phone or through texts. Many of my clients like to put together wardrobes for their session and text pictures of them to me for my feedback, which has become a very easy and fun way to help with choosing outfits. Here is a great place to start if you aren't sure how to put together coordinating outfits for you and your family.

Q. How does a typical session go??

A. There is no such thing as a ‘typical’ session but most of them work this way. Before I begin photographing, I like to spend a few minutes getting aquainted with you and your children. Meeting new people can be intimidating for some kids and I want you and your little people to be as comfortable as possible. Once everyone has warmed up a little, we will focus on getting a few shots of the family all together in a more traditional, posed setting, with tickles and jokes to relax everyone. We will spend some time exploring the location you've chosen for your session and I will give you direction along the way so that you always know what to do. Toward the end, when everyone is winding down, I will take each of your little people aside for some one-on-one time with me. This allows them to be themselves and helps me to capture them in the most natural way.

Q. What happens after our session??

A. After your session, I will be hard at work, narrowing down my favorites and preparing your images for your gallery. Once I am finished editing your images and have prepared your gallery slideshow, I will send you a link to view your images, where you can choose the 15 images included in your package. Additional digital files will be available for purchase and I will have a limited number of print products available as well, should you decide you want a signature book or an accordion album.
