Why Fall is the Perfect Time for Family Portraits
Fall is almost here and for most of the country, cooler weather is on the way (yes, even in Florida). Don't get me wrong, it's still 'surface of the sun' hot here so the cooler weather might take a little longer but we'll get there. For me, cooler temps always mean it's time to get back to work! I don't photograph as many sessions in Florida in the summer, unless one of my families wants an in-home session (which I love!). It's just too hot, everyone is sweaty and it doesn't make for beautiful images when the kids are miserable and everyone's faces are red.
But when the kids go back to school, I start prepping for another season of creating images for my families that I hope they will love and cherish for years. Fall is the perfect time to think about planning your family portraits and here are a few reasons why:
It’s almost sweater weather!!
Well, not yet, at least not in Florida, but it might be by the time your session rolls around. At the very least, it won't be 92 with 110% humidity.
For most people, it takes a little time to plan for a family photo session and I want to give my clients enough time to find coordinating outfits that fit every family member's style and personality so allowing a few weeks between booking your session and photographing it gives us time to find the perfect ‘winter’ 'fits for everyone! And then we pray for a cold front…
2. Planning family portraits at the same time every year creates consistency with your images
If you're anything like me, you struggle to remember what you had for lunch yesterday. Keeping things routine is the best way to make sure stuff gets done and that goes for updating your family photos. If you do it the same time every year, you won't have any age weird gaps with your kids' photos. Case in point, I used to photograph my girls every summer (either at the beach or in Ohio) for their annual photos. But one year, we skipped our normal vacation spots and I didn't photograph their yearly session until almost Christmas. That extra six months made a huge difference in their appearances and I've had to photograph their annual sessions in the winter since then to keep their "aging" consistent. Kids can change their appearance so fast, sometimes in just a matter of months, so trying to update family photos at the same time every year makes it easier.
3. Photographs make the BEST holiday gifts!
One of the biggest reason why I love photographing families in the Fall is because it makes holiday shopping easier for them. Every session I offer includes 15 digital images which means you’ll have plenty of options finding photo gifts for everyone you love. I recommend www.mpix.com for all of your printing and photo gift needs!
Most photographers book up pretty quickly in the fall so don't wait until November to decide to schedule your session. Find the photographer who fits your style and budget and get your date scheduled soon, before their calendar is filled! Can’t wait to see some of you soon!
