How to Have the Best Photoshoot Ever!

You've finally done it...you scheduled the session. You have a date and time to meet. Now what?? How do you go from here to those beautiful images that you can't wait to put on your walls or make into an album??

The easiest way to have a seamless photography session with amazing photos is to find a photographer that you love who will guide you through the process, telling you everything you need to know before, during and after your experience.

Most photographers work really hard to prepare their clients for what to expect. We write the blogs about what to wear and how to prep your family and what time and where to schedule your session.

We do that because we know how busy you are. We know you don't have time to research all of this yourself. And most importantly, we want you to LOVE every part of this experience. You hired us because we are the experts and we've done this a thousand times!

So when clients ask me what they need to do to have the best photoshoot ever, here's what I tell them:

Before your session:

-Read the stuff I send you ❤️. The emails. The links to blog posts. I know you're busy and your time is valuable but I promise this part is worth it! Pour yourself a glass of wine and set aside some time one night to read over the information.

-Fill out the questionnaire I send you. It helps me get to know your family better so I'm able to create images that truly reflect who you all are. I want to tell your family’s story in the most authentic way I can and knowing the special things that make your family unique really helps!

-Spend some time putting together clothes that will look amazing for your photoshoot. Read my blog post for ideas on how to put together a gorgeous wardrobe that “fits” your family. And text me with ideas of what you’re thinking…I love helping my families create coordinating outfits for session day!

-Make time for a quick chat a few weeks before your session to make sure everyone is on the same page with regard to location and timing. We will also talk about your questionnaire so I can get clarification on anything you shared with me.

-Make sure everyone is well rested and fed the day of. It’s hard to be fully present and your best self when you’re tired or hungry.

During your session:

-Show up ready to make memories with your family! There will be silly games and a lot of laughing and hugging but all you have to do is just enjoy being with your people.

-Let your kids be themselves. Don't worry if they aren't smiling for every shot. I promise we are going to play for so much of the session, there will be plenty of natural smiles. If they aren't super engaged for part of the session, it's cool, I promise. I will find a way to bring them back to what we're doing. Putting pressure on them to perform by asking them to smile or threatening them with consequences makes it hard for them to be their authentic selves. Unless it's a safety issue or violates a family rule, just enjoy being with your children and trust me to get images of your family that you will treasure!

After the session:

-Relax! The hard part is over! I will narrow down all of the images from your session and will have your edited gallery back to you within 2-3 weeks. From that gallery, you can choose the 15 digital images included in your session fee and download them immediately. Your edited gallery will also be uploaded to Mpix Photo Lab, where you can order prints and canvases, make albums and order gifts for the grandparents! All you have to do is decide what you want to do with each image you love. HERE are some ideas to get you started!
